Woven City: cuando los fabricantes de automóviles diseñan ciudades inteligentes

Autor | Jaime RamosEstamos acostumbrados a ver cómo los fabricantes de automóviles presentan prototipos futuristas que presumen de las últimas prestaciones de conectividad y conducción autónoma. Lo que no es tan habitual es que hagan lo propio a nivel urbanístico.Esto es lo que está intentando la compañía Toyota con Woven City. Se trata de un laboratorio viviente donde experimentar, desde cero, las últimas tecnologías en cuanto a planificación urbana, movilidad, gestión energética, conectividad, robótica y optimización del espacio. Un proyecto que resulta similar al ya emprendido con la ciudad de Alphabet en Toronto.

¿Qué la ha llevado a Toyota a lanzarse a crear una ciudad inteligente?

La Woven City de Toyota va un paso más allá, al menos en cuanto a espacio se refiere. Y es que, mientras que la Smart City de Google en Toronto ocupa unas cuatro hectáreas, Woven City se extiende hasta 70 hectáreas. La idea es erigir un barrio que albergue una población de unos 2.000 habitantes ubicado a los pies del monte Fuji.El lugar y el momento no resultan causales. El fabricante presentaba de forma oficial su proyecto en el último CES de Las Vegas, la mayor feria de tecnología del mundo. Se ha servido así de un primer escaparate y antes de su puesta de largo en los Juegos de Tokio 2020.

Woven City: hacia la integración total de tecnologías inteligentes

https://youtu.be/BONZLgt1G2UEl plan con Woven City incluye el diseño de tres tipos de calles (una rápida para vehículos, otra mixta y otra para la movilidad personal) en un ambiente de sostenibilidad total. En las aceras encontramos edificios fabricados en madera, con techos cubiertos de paneles solares cuya producción energética se combinará con la procedente de pilas de combustible de hidrógeno.La ciudad de Toyota descubre, además, calles inteligentes divididas en tres clases por el tipo de movilidad, pobladas con vegetación autóctona y con unos altos niveles de automatización de los servicios públicos, consolidados con el uso de la inteligencia artificial mediante robots y vehículos autónomos.El espacio urbano se ha diseñado para fomentar el ámbito social de la plaza central de la ciudad. “Trabajo sucio” como pudiera ser la distribución de bienes y el tránsito robótico más funcional quedará bajo el subsuelo, en las entrañas de la ciudad.Para su diseño, Toyota ha contratado al arquitecto danés Bjarke Ingels, famoso por proyectos como el nuevo World Trade Center de Nueva York o la sede de Google, realizadas por su estudio BIG

¿Qué podemos esperar de Woven City?

Woven City Las proyecciones oficiales señalan que Woven City comenzará a ser habitada hacia 2021, comenzando así una fase experimental a través de la experiencia de los primeros pobladores. Sin embargo, es imposible desconectar esta ciudad conceptual de su contexto.Las Olimpiadas de Tokio están sirviendo de aliciente para la avanzada industria japonesa. No en vano, todo está dirigido este año a mostrar al mundo los milagros de su sociedad. Woven City forma parte de esta estrategia diseñada para mostrar el liderazgo tecnológico japonés más que para satisfacer las necesidades de la población, y le resultará difícil desprenderse de esa aura promocional.Un bueno ejemplo de esas intenciones es la presencia protagonista de la pila de combustible de hidrógeno en el proyecto. El uso de este combustible cuenta con una viabilidad en la actualidad más bien escasa. Ahora bien, Japón y, en concreto Toyota, llevan años apostando por las tecnologías relacionadas con el hidrógeno. Una baza que puede que le reste algo de credibilidad a esta ciudad del futuro.Con todo, habrá que esperar para ver cómo se desarrolla el proyecto.
