A reference in Smart Cities, the Brazilian startup Bright Cities is an online platform capable of making cities of any size or nationality smarter. With the slogan “Upgrade your city”, its proposal is to guarantee a gradual evolution of cities, offering the necessary tools to improve its services, the public management and the quality of life of citizens.

Developed during more than five years by researchers and data scientists from UNICAMP, the platform uses an exclusive and innovative analysis methodology to develop diagnostics and roadmaps of urban solutions, technologies and good practices. With this information in hand, public managers are able to develop more assertive and effective strategic plans, in addition to evaluating and monitoring the performance of public policies and designing projects to solve the main challenges. Cities of different scales and profiles have adopted the Bright Cities platform, from Riyadh, capital and financial center of Saudi Arabia, with more than 7 million inhabitants, through Brazilian metropolises such as Aracaju (SE) and Campinas (SP). In partnership with the American organization Leading Cities, launched the Leading Cities U. S. Smart Cities Rating System, a tool that evaluated the 500 largest cities in the United States. For managers who have already used the service, the platform was able to provide a deep understanding of the municipality and to bring examples of good practices from other cities in the world: “It is a technology that brings together important data, opens up possibilities for going further and presents concrete solutions so that we can increasingly think outside the box", says Edvaldo Nogueira, mayor of Aracaju (SE).
