New York City is implementing plans to expand its pandemic-era initiatives to improve pedestrian and bike accessibility on the streets. The city’s first public realm officer, Ya-Ting Liu, is overseeing the efforts, identifying priority projects in each borough. These projects will utilize a portion of the $375 million funding designated to enhance the city’s environment. They include creating additional pedestrian plazas on busy streets, wider sidewalks, and expanding public spaces, such as the area under the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge.
The goal is to make the city "cleaner and greener" and provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists.
